CHALLENGE

Founded in Berlin, Run a Shop GmbH is a tech startup that works with leading e-commerce companies and merchants, providing them with highly profitable traffic at the lowest possible cost per click. The platform operates in 24 countries, reaching 2 M+ daily users and 10 M clicks per day.

In 2011 Run a Shop hired Brightgrove to help them finish building a new software product.

We were to complete the following tasks:
• Hire a remote dedicated team of senior and middle engineers to handle the quality assurance and full-stack development.
• Implement Agile software development methodology instead of Waterfall.
• Develop a responsive web app with the mobile view mode almost from scratch.
• Perform quality assurance and bug fixing.
• Develop and scale the back end/CRM solution.

SOLUTION

Since 2011 we’ve been handling the full-cycle recruitment, hiring and onboarding services, assembling a team of engineers with excellent communication skills. Each was handpicked by our Recruitment Department and approved by the customer. Run a Shop manages and controls the development process.

To improve the development flow and increase productivity, we replaced the Waterfall methodology with the Agile Scrum.

Using Responsive Web Design techniques and precise UI designs provided by the customer’s team, we created 2 versions of a cross-browser-compatible web application that works in a mobile view mode. The pilot version presented a user-friendly price navigator platform that aggregated merchants like Amazon, eBay and eBay Auctions, Kelkoo AliExpress, Google Adsense Billiger Otto Group, and Shopzilla. The second version was much faster, with a new tech stack and extended functionality. 

Project’s timeframe was as follows:

  • 2.5–3 years to develop a pilot version.
  • 2 years to develop the second version of the product, using a new tech stack.

RESULTS

  • Set up and retained a dedicated Agile team of middle and senior experts since 2011.
  • The product has received numerous awards from Google, European Tech 5, and Deloitte Technology Fast 50.
  • The number of active users and the revenue of Run a Shop have significantly increased.
  • Created and launched 2 stable and secure versions of the app.
  • Wrote the test cases for both the internal and customer’s usage.
  • Participated in the development of a scalable CRM system to manage all websites.

Yesterday we wrote history by serving more than 1 million users during a single day for the 1st time! You all had a stake in that. I’m proud of us, team!

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW

After Run a Shop released the second version of the platform, we established a steady flow for long-term support and growth of their project. Currently, the dedicated team includes 3 full-time professionals:
• 2 Full Stack developers
• 1 Scrum Master

Run a Shop fully controls and manages the Dedicated Team, and owns all Intellectual Property Rights for the developed product.
The latest achievement includes a big travel services provider that has integrated with the Run a Shop application.
